Jolly Beach - AntiguaAuthor: Sema
Date visited: Dec 2005 Hotel: Stayed at the jolly beach, what a wicked place. The reviews below are so true.. You get fantatsic service and this is the place to chill. Played loads of the organised games during the day, they even had kick ass reggae playing by the pool. Will be defintely going back! -------------------------------------------- Author: Rishi Date Visited: Oct 2004 Hotel: We stayed at the Jolly Beach in Antigua, it’s an all inclusive resort, was a four star place, with a really cool beach, and great pool activities, Took my son, who had a great time. He didn't like the kids club as was out of the way... But we loved the hammock veranda, which looked out onto the beach, and you could just watch the sunsets across the beach. Was awesome... Would highly recommend the place. Watch out for the mosquito’s got bitten a bit Entertainment: Didn’t really travel out as had all the food and drink we needed included by the hotel, only local brand stuff but was still good. They have a club on site, but it was nothing special. Just really friendly people! ---------------------------------------------- Author Lalita Date Visited: Nov 2004 General: Jolly Beach Antigua - I will second that Rishi, great place & highly recommended. Couple of general suggestions:- * Check in - request for a room with a view. The porter that takes you to view these, ask him to find you a room with a view opposed to the people behind the desk. (After 45mins of viewing rooms, general chat-chat with the bell boy, he went away and pulled some strings for me to get a room with AMAZING views). * bagsing your seat early in the morning - place a book and sunscreen on your deck chair (nothing valuable) first thing in the morning before breakfast so you are guaranteed a desired seat in desired spot. Dont be ashamed, alot of people do it. - Don't book things through the unoffical guides that approach you on the beach. Heard from other peoples experience they aren't well planned and waste of money. Pay little extra and do official tours booked through your hotel concierge desk. * Do a boat excursions to outer Islands - highly recommended! Entertainement: Highly recommend the trip to Shirley Point - great steel band and bar with amazing sights over Antigua. Romantic as the sun sets. Bit of a journey but worth it! * Hotel across the road (Jolly Hotel) has casino and night life entertainment if you so wish to experience some reggae tunes. Avoid: Watch out for your bag and don't pay for the first price they give you. Pay in American dollars - so make sure you take some out before you go. Preferred currency unofficially. For those non-beach holidayers (i am now converted), Antigua is great balance of adventure things to do and generaly chilling on the beach with a cocktail and isn't as costly as some of the other Carribean Islands. Have fun! |
